With all the dramatic accusations of Harris being a 'Marxist', I thought I'd share this basic information about the political philosophy that her parents, her upbringing and most of her record indicates that she actually prescribes to - Social Democracy. The NeoCapitalists, a term I use for unfettered, perpetual short-term growth Capitalism is Social Darwinism, a pseudo-scientific justification for misogynistic, racist, financial and socially-based genocide, enslavement, oppression and exploitation of those 'less fitted'. We are WAY past the majority of citizens in this country wanting Social Darwinism as the leading Ideology of The United States of America. It's time to send MAGA packing, to end Citizen's United, Presidential Immunity, The Patriot Act, Democratic Socialism vs Socialist Democracy
Key differences:
Economic ownership: Democratic socialism aims for workers’ ownership of the means of production, whereas socialist democracy (also known as social democracy) seeks to regulate capitalism through government intervention, taxation, and social welfare programs, without necessarily abolishing private ownership.
Reformist vs. revolutionary: Democratic socialism often advocates for a revolutionary transformation of the economic system, whereas socialist democracy tends to focus on reforming capitalism within its existing framework.
State role: Democratic socialism tends to emphasize a more direct, decentralized, and participatory role for the state and civil society, whereas socialist democracy often relies on a stronger, more centralized state to implement social and economic reforms.
Similarities:
Social justice and equality: Both democratic socialism and socialist democracy prioritize social justice, equality, and the well-being of the majority over the interests of capital and the wealthy.
Democratic principles: Both ideologies emphasize the importance of democracy, participatory governance, and the empowerment of ordinary people.
Critique of capitalism: Both democratic socialism and socialist democracy critique capitalism for its inherent inequalities, exploitation, and lack of democratic accountability.
Notable examples:
Bernie Sanders is often characterized as a democratic socialist, as he advocates for a more radical transformation of the economy and society, whereas social democrats like those in Scandinavian countries focus on reforming capitalism within its existing framework.
The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) explicitly rejects authoritarian visions of socialism and emphasizes democratic principles, participatory governance, and workers’ control.
