November and more

As I wait for the score…

You just can’t make this shit up.. It guess it really is all a dream we dreamed one afternoon long ago.

Unbroken Chain is, for me, one of the BIG songs in the Dead’s repertoire. Words by Bobby Petersen, music by Phil Lesh, it stands as one of most musically complex pieces they performed, and the fact that it was never, until 1995, performed live in concert by the Grateful Dead puts it into a very cryptic category. As I danced to Phil’s greatest hits on repeat for hours last night with my beautiful GD Soul Sistar, Annette  - under the stars here in Maricopa County, Arizona  - I experienced a mind-blowing revelation. I’m going to take you through it with me.

Listening for the secret

Searching for the sound

But I could only hear the preacher

And the baying of his hounds

My epiphany began with the song’s second verse which immediately struck me as very resonant with my experience campaigning for Harris in Arizona in the most volatile swing state county west of the Mississippi. I end up talking to a vastly diverse group of voters that represent a wide age range. The first two lines here are my experience with Team Harris. We listen to all voices, want to consider all citizen’s needs equally, and are willing to keep searching and ‘building a more perfect Union’. The second two lines speak directly to my greatest fear, NAR (New Apolistic Reformation) Network, the fundamentalist Christian Nationalists radicalized holy warmongers faction who constitute 30 % of the MAGA. They represent a massively growing “Pentecostal’ movement that want the Bible to control all aspects of our life, “so we can live not as we want to, but as we ought.”(Project 2025)

Willow sky

I walk and wonder why

They say love your brother

But you will catch it when you try

Roll you down the line, boy

Drop you for a loss

Ride you out on a cold railroad

And nail you to a cross

We are told by Jesus to live the Golden Rule, “to love others as you want to be loved”. I mean come on, his whole gig was to end the angry, jealous, vengeful way of the Old Testament. The New Testament is written in our hearts and not in the stone of dogmatic scriptures and controlling and shaming ideologies. I honestly cannot believe that the Early Christians somehow started with the clear message of Jesus that the new way was specifically non-violent, compassionate and forgiving and somehow by the end they’re right back worshipping those old testament ways. It’s such a fucking farce.

Oh yeah, Jesus also highly recommends NOT judging others, lest we not be judged. Yet, On the whole, it’s so obvious that the more white and christian fundamentalist the student is, the more snippy, pretentious and condescending they are. They interrupt, talk over and shut me down. The contrast is stark as the student body is so epically diverse and the non-white, non-christian fundamentalists are way more respectful and chiller than the white kids in every way. Canvassing in a neighborhood the other day, I had a single young white man who was around 30 years of age call me a murderer intensely to my face like i was a witch because I had an abortion for serious health reasons. This 30 year-old white single man insisted that he knew more about this issue than me even though I was a flesh and blood grown woman in front of him who had raised a child, had an abortion for health reasons, had a miscarriage and. He was clearly VERY angry about something to do with women. This is what we’re dealing with people. I also feel like there are so many folks who are being bamboozled by the Drumpfs ‘Effective Incrementalism’, aka. Totalitarian Tiptoe.

November and more

As I wait for the score

Okay, now shit starts getting really crazy - what? “November and more, as I wait for the score”? I don’t think I ever even heard that line before? But here I am on 10/27 working with every waking

minute and every fiber of my body so come November 5th we can settle this score.

They're telling me forgiveness is the key to every door

A slow winter day, a night like forever

Sink like a stone, float like a feather

Will we sink like a stone or float like a feather? There’s no doubt in my mind, Trump and Vance’s ‘the ends justify the means’ is simply a criminal mind. Vance said himself that lying is okay as long at

it wakes people up to what he is saying is that person’s reality.

Unbroken chain of sorrow and pearls

Unbroken chain of shy and sea

Unbroken chain of the western wind

Unbroken chain of you and me

I was also instructed by Phil to start nationwide GD Pentecostal MegaChurches! We must build coalitions amongst non-traditional allies. We have so much more in common than is different and just knew in my heart that so many Pentecostals will love this kind of Church. We are peas in a pod. Full on Zealots cuz’ we love what we love and we want it that way:-)
