JD Vance's book shows his tough childhood, the help he got, the social services his family relied upon, and then his fortunate accident ending up at Harvard, then ends with saying governments never solve anything, people shouldn't avail themselves of government assistance, and everyone can bootstrap their way to success as he did.
Koch Brothers - Kochtopus
the Koch-network "made inroads at all levels of governments". At the state level, they gained 900 seats in state legislatures.[44]of $274 million in anonymous 2012 contributions, at least $86 million is "attributed to donor groups in the Koch network".[62][63]
The beginning of the Koch fortune came after Fred Koch was paid $500,000 in the 1930s by Stalin for building 15 oil refineries in the Soviet Union.
In 1934–1935, Fred built Nazi Germany’s third largest oil refinery, the Hamburg Oil Refinery - that supplied fuel for German war planes - for Eurotank. Adolf Hitler personally approved of this plan.
During WWII, allied forces targeted the Hamburg Oil Refinery and other Eurotank properties because they were deemed as “a key component in the Nazi war machine”:
In September 1945, an expert panel called the U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey published a 78-page report on a series of six attacks on Eurotank by the U.S. Air Force and Royal Air Force beginning June 18, 1944, and ending April 10, 1945. The introduction to this formerly confidential document…calls the facility “one of the largest modern oil refineries in Germany,” and estimates that the hundreds of bombs dropped by the allied air forces destroyed 80 percent of Eurotank’s buildings, tankage, and equipment.
Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE) (1984–2004) was a conservative political group operating in the United States. It was established in 1984 by Charles and David Koch of Koch Industries.
-In 2002, CSE designed and made public a "tea party" website. The website stated "our US Tea Party is a national event, hosted continuously online and open to all Americans who feel our taxes are too high and the tax code is too complicated".
2004 CSE split :
-Americans for Prosperity, led by President Nancy Pfotenhauer,
-FreedomWorks, led by President and CEO Matt Kibbe.[9][failed verification]
From 2020 to 2022, Charles transferred $5.3 billion of Koch Industries' nonvoting stock to a pair of nonprofits with fewer restrictions on lobbying and politics than traditional charities.
Americans for Prosperity (AFP), founded in 2004, is a libertarian conservative political advocacy group in the United States affiliated with brothers Charles Koch and the late David Koch
-AFP helped transform the Tea Party movement into a political force.
Michael Evan Horowitz[1] (born September 19, 1962)[2] is an American attorney and government official. He is the Inspector General of the United States Department of Justice.
Lewis Franklin Powell Jr. (September 19, 1907 – August 25, 1998) was an American lawyer and jurist who served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1972 to 1987.
The Powell Memorandum ultimately came to be a blueprint for the rise of the American conservative movement and the formation of a network of influential right-wing think tanks and lobbying organizations, such as the Business Roundtable, The Heritage Foundation, the Cato Institute, Manhattan Institute for Policy Research and the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), and inspired the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to become far more politically active.[19][20][21] CUNY professor David Harvey traces the rise of neoliberalism in the US to this memo.[22][23] Historian Gary Gerstle refers to the memo as "a neoliberal call to arms."[19] Political scientist Aaron Good describes it as an "inverted totalitarian manifesto" designed to identify threats to the established economic order following the democratic upsurge of the 1960s.[24]
